Have you ever wondered who is responsible for the delectable tastes that come out of the Pine Needles and Mid Pines Resort? Well we have the answer for you and his name is Mr. Peter Hamm.
Chef Peter Hamm is the Executive Chef and Director of Food and Beverage for Pine Needles and Mid Pines Golf Resorts, which offers the In The Rough Lounge, The Crest Dining Room, and Pop's Lounge. With over 20 years of culinary experience, Chef Hamm has received numerous awards and medals for showcasing his culinary expertise.
He began his culinary journey at the ripe age of 15 when he started working in a Michigan retirement home and part time at a pizzeria. From there he realized his love of the craft and by the age of 17 he became the first student in a pilot program for Grand Rapids Community College Culinary Arts Program. He was only a junior in high school at the time and beat out many other students for only one is chosen per year.
Chef Hamm attracted the attention of his professors and was able to enroll in an International Studies Program allowing him to travel to Argentina, Egypt, Israel, Turkey, Greece and the Greek Islands exploring international cuisine. He became a member of the first American Team to enter the Malta International Culinary Cup and receive two gold medals.
He has had many wonderful positions throughout his culinary career, including the Executive Chef position for Chandlers Restaurant in Petoskey, Michigan where he was honored with Best Restaurant in Northern Michigan while he was there.
After his career in Michigan he decided to leave the cold behind him and head to the Caribbean to be the Executive Chef for a Caribbean style steakhouse for the Westin Resort & Villas in St John USVI, called Cruz Bay Prime. Once Chef Hamm departed from island time, he ventured to the lovely town of Southern Pines where he opened Southern Prime Steakhouse and shortly after joined our team at Pine Needles and Mid Pines Resorts.
Chef Hamm prides himself on a love and passion for food that is contagious. He describes his menus and thoughts with such vivid description and excitement. He believes that freshness and quality of the products are key to enhancing the true flavors of any meal. He spends most of his personal time cooking with his wife, Tammi and 1 year-old daughter, Isla who enjoy his meals greatly. When asked about what he would like as his last meal, he responds lasagna, because comfort food is his current obsession.
